LEE'S OFF TO CABOOLTURE COUNTRY

05-05-08

Lee is heading to Caboolture, just north of Brisbane, for the QUT Urban Country Music Festival the May long weekend.

The festival, which is expected to attract more than 30,000 day visitors, is celebrating its fifth birthday with a host of country music singers including Australian of the Year Lee Kernaghan.

Kernaghan was the first country music artist to receive the prestigious award and will headline the festival's Main Concert on Saturday, May 3 at Caboolture Showgrounds.

He will perform alongside country music artists such as Troy Cassar-Daley, The McClymonts and Kirsty Lee Akers.

"We're celebrating the festival's fifth birthday by bringing back our most popular artists from years gone by," Caboolture Shire Mayor Joy Leishman said. "While the main concert is the signature event of our festival, almost all other concerts and activities are free.

"There is something for the whole family to enjoy at the festival, so come along and kick up your heels."

Located in the heart of Caboolture, the QUT Urban Country Music Festival has become a highlight of the country music calendar.

This year's festival will feature more than 500 country music artists across 11 stages as well as four days filled with free events including concerts, bush poets, the Beaut Ute Show, Songwriter's Cafe and much more.

Festivities kick off with the free Burbs 'n' Bush Party on Friday May 2, which will feature the winners of the Australian Independent Country Music Rising Star Awards, Markus Meier and Casey Watt.

Take in the Urban Blaze Concert around moonlit campfires on Sunday May 4 with performances by Jetty Road, Tom Curtain and Rob Black, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

The Urban Country Farewell Concert in the Town Square will close the festival on Monday, May 5, Labour Day in Queensland.

A host of new events have been added to this year's festival such as the Urban Country Warriors concert, a New Zealand country music showcase and the Next Generation Station featuring performances from our young rising stars.

More children will also enjoy the festival, with the introduction of Dusty's Kids Corner in the Town Square, offering stacks of fun activities.

Enthusiasts have already begun snapping up accommodation and campsites around Caboolture, with visitors encouraged to book in as early as possible.

Tickets to the main concert cost $64.90 for adults and $20 for children and are available through the festival's dedicated website at www.urbancountry.com.au and from Ticketek (13 28 49 or www.ticketek.com).
